Natural gas demand grows in Brazil
“LNG must be part of Brazil’s natural gas supply solutions in the future,” ExxonMobil LNG Market Development Vice President Ed Austin said at the Brazilian Petroleum Institute’s 2019 Seminar on Natural Gas. Held in Rio de Janeiro during August, the seminar hosted delegates from across Brazil’s natural gas industry.
Austin provided perspectives on the global LNG market and its role in Brazil. He highlighted ExxonMobil’s history as the oldest oil company in Brazil and extreme pride in the opportunity to take part in Brazil’s first private LNG-to-power project. Through a joint venture with Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil will start LNG shipments in January 2020 to the CELSE power project in the northeastern state of Sergipe.
ExxonMobil helped sponsor the natural gas seminar in support of the company’s LNG market-development activities in Brazil. “Opportunities include the increase of LNG into power, along with the potential for LNG into industrial, bunkering and transportation,” Austin said.
Natural gas can help meet the world’s energy challenges while safeguarding the environment for future generations. “With policies that support open markets, free trade and a level playing field, we can develop and deploy natural gas resources in Brazil and around the globe for the benefit of individuals, countries and the future,” Austin said.
